Description:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Accountant is responsible for various accounts payable and banking functions. The accountant also supports the Plant Accountant and is able to assist them with or cover various functions including management of petty cash, various accounts receivable functions and accounting system reviews.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Matching and verifying supplier invoices to outstanding receiving documents and purchase orders. Input supplier invoices to Movex for payment.
  • Review and code employee expense reports before submitting for management approval. Input approved expense reports to Movex for payment or arrange for payment from petty cash.
  • Review, code and input freight & duty invoices.
  • Maintain the freight & duty register.
  • Creating payments (cheques or wire payments) for supplier invoices, mailing the cheques.
  • Prepare bank wires for processing by entry to web banking, then provide for authorization.
  • Record successful bank wire transactions in MOVEX.
  • Take deposits and payments to bank 1-2 times per week (as needed).
  • Daily review of unposted MOVEX transactions and balance sheet.
  • Download daily bank activity (cheques cleared / cheques written / incoming wire payments / outgoing wire payments).
  • Daily review of unposted MOVEX transactions and balance sheet.
  • Download daily bank activity (cheques cleared / cheques written / incoming wire payments / outgoing wire payments).
  • Manage petty cash including payment of miscellaneous expense reports, receiving miscellaneous cash payments and balancing transactions to the general ledger.
  • Processing of intercompany payables.
  • Review accounts receivable for overdue invoices.
  • Advise SPAI (sales organization) of invoices due for next wire payment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • A diploma from a recognized accounting program and/or accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Enrollment in a professional accounting designation program would be a definite asset.
  • Computer literate: familiar with MS Word and Excel, and at ease learning new software applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Well organized and capable of working with a minimum of supervision in a fast-paced team environment.
