Staffmax is assisting our global client with a 1 year Benefits Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Supports manufacturing employees in Manitoba and Ontario.
  • Must be a team member and be able to communicate with confidentiality and sensitivity with employees and senior management.
  • Coordinates with HR leadership.
  • Provides an advocacy role for employees with concerns related to benefit plans. Researches, responds to, and resolves inquiries and problems of various complexities referring to established precedents and policies regarding benefit issues and concerns.
  • Performs day-to-day administrative functions relating to benefits.
  • Conducts group benefit education sessions and presentations (e.g. new hire, group layoff, retirees) as required.
  • Engages with employees, managers, HR and payroll, along with benefit consultants and/or third party administrators to provide benefit information, determine eligibility and ensure accuracy in delivery of benefit programs.
  • Reviews and prepares information related to leaves of absence.
  • Researches and validates general benefits data; performs other specific functions (e.g. pension calculations, life claims, disability claims, etc.).
  • Coordinates employee benefit data transfer with vendors and internal customers. Validates and/or corrects employee data.
  • Researches and prepares ad hoc reports for review. Researches, reviews and compiles benefit data for audits and other legal inquiries, as directed. Compiles data and responds to benefit surveys.
  • Compiles information relevant to benefit appeals from the appropriate sources and forwards to supervision.
  • Recommends benefit plan design changes and facilitates implementation of new or modified benefit plans.
  • Monitors and analyzes legislative and regulatory actions that impact benefit plans. Audits and monitors performance metrics and standards.
  • Develops and monitors domestic and international benefit strategies to maintain market competitive benefit programs.
  • Researches and documents benefit provisions related to corporate restructuring, as required.
  • Audits vendor/carrier compliance to performance standards and report status. Reviews calculations for accuracy to facilitate retirements.
  • May draft the Statement of Work for the vendors and/or programmers, establishes implementation schedules and coordinates with internal organizations (e.g. communications, payroll, etc.) to implement domestic benefits changes.
  • Provides general information regarding the disability management processes

Qualifications:

  • Requires familiarity with Canadian benefits (Canada Life, Manulife, provincial health coverage, etc.).
  • Must be proficient in: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, online databases, etc. Experience with Workday an asset.
  • CEBS designation preferred.
