DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for cleanliness in the facility while ensuring cleanliness procedures are met. Reports to Executive Chef, Sous Chef on duty or Chief Steward.
Location- Downtown Ottawa
Must wear non slippery shoes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to constantly work irregular hours, days, nights, and weekends
- Know and comply with client policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and emergencies.
- Liaise with the Chief Steward or Sous Chef on duty for specific instructions/requests.
- Carry out duties as assigned, also refer to cleaning schedules and perform the necessary duties.
- Washes utensils, such as pots, pans, and trays by hand using cleaning detergents. Occasionally polishes utensils. Drains dries and stacks items after washing.

- Cleans stoves, ovens, grills, refrigerators, and using cleaning solutions, brushes and wash cloths.
- Ensures equipment and areas are clean and dry.
- Cleans and deep cleans equipment and areas.
- Maintains a clean, sanitary and safe working environment.
- Cleans storage areas.
- Controls the use of cleaning supplies, informing the Sous Chef of supply requirements one (1) day in advance.
- Reports equipment and fittings malfunctions to the Sous Chef.
- Assists with routine preparatory tasks.
- Correctly disposes of garbage and waste products.
- Performs duties in a safe and hygienic manner.
- Devises and executes sanitation procedures and checklists in all kitchen areas.
- Completes tasks as quickly as safely practical.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by management.
- Ability to frequently move about a large facility, which could span several hundred thousand feet, to perform work responsibilities, and inspections.
- Ability to constantly handle, lift, and operate kitchen equipment.
- Ability to constantly discern food quality and palatability.
- Ability to constantly identify and rectify hazardous situations in the workplace.
- Ability to constantly communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, component management, staff, and vendors.
- Ability to occasionally operate office machinery.
- Ability to frequently handle objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.
- Ability to frequently withstand high and low room temperatures and handle hot equipment.
- Other Duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous dishwashing experience considered an asset.
