Position Overview

Staffmax is hiring an experienced Fresh Produce Quality Control Specialist for a full-time position in Winnipeg.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on fresh produce experience in a warehouse, distribution, or retail environment who has a strong eye for quality and understands food safety and product specifications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the quality of inbound and outbound fresh produce, conducting quality inspections, maintaining documentation, and working closely with warehouse and sales teams to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Must have fresh produce experience, either in a warehouse, distribution, or retail environment.
  • Conduct quality audits on inbound fresh produce loads.
  • Prepare quality reports and documentation for Warehouse Managers and the Sales Team.
  • Inspect outbound produce to identify quality concerns and communicate issues to the Sales Team.
  • Understand customer-specific product quality specifications and ensure products meet those requirements.
  • Recommend and coordinate CFIA inspections when inbound quality issues or defects do not meet federal guidelines.
  • Conduct daily facility inspections to identify aging produce and other quality concerns.
  • Monitor product condition throughout storage and identify potential quality issues before they escalate.
  • Assist with put-away planning alongside Shipping and Receiving teams to optimize cooler space for incoming commodities.
  • Assist with coaching, teaching, and training warehouse employees on fresh produce quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Assist with month-end inventory counts as required.
  • Support additional quality-control projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Previous fresh produce experience is required — warehouse, distribution, grocery, or retail experience is considered.
  • Understanding of HACCP and food safety regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong ability to identify product quality issues.
  • Strong verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately communicate and document product conditions and quality concerns.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable, energetic, and positive professional attitude.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow company policies, procedures, and food safety requirements.
