Staffmax, in collaboration with our client in Ottawa, ON, is currently seeking a skilled and reliable General Maintenance- Handyman to join their team. If you have a passion for maintaining and repairing various building components and possess a range of handyman skills, this opportunity might be perfect for you!
Position Details:
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Term: 6-Month term (possibility of full-time employment after the initial period)
- Wage: $25.00 per hour
Responsibilities: As a General Maintenance- Handyman, you will be responsible for the following:
- Responding promptly and professionally to maintenance calls, coordinating with other operational departments as needed.
- Performing general maintenance and repairs, including tasks such as painting, drywalling, tiling, carpentry, caulking, and other general contractor duties.
- Ensuring the proper functioning of building components and systems, such as the hotel swimming pool, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
- Carrying out preventative maintenance tasks as required.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and monitoring inventory.
- Keeping mechanical areas, shop, and tools clean and well-maintained.
- Managing fire equipment and systems, and fulfilling specific fire alarm response duties.
- Promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, in compliance with the guidelines and legislation outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Performing any other duties assigned by management.
Requirements: To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in minor electrical, painting, plumbing, and air conditioning repairs.
- Previous experience in a hotel setting would be advantageous.
- Bilingualism (English/French) would be considered an asset.
Physical Demands: This position requires physical stamina and the ability to perform various tasks. The physical demands include:
- Standing for extended periods and answering the phone continuously.
- Flexibility in working hours to accommodate business needs.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Most work tasks are performed indoors in a controlled temperature environment.
- Lifting weights up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Pushing and pulling carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Ability to work in limited spaces and perform bending, stooping, squatting, and stretching.
- Manual dexterity to operate necessary equipment.
