Part-time Mon to Fri days Educational Requirements: 1. Prefer high school diploma or G.E.D. 2. Completion of a certified HCA course. 3. Practical experience with older adults or geriatrics. Position Requirements: 1. Genuinely interested in caring for older adults and working in the geriatric nursing environment. 2. Basic understanding of the feelings associated with older adults. 3. Patient and tactful in relating to residents, family members, volunteers, visitors, physicians and the general public. 4. Ability to observe and report physical and emotional changes in resident's condition. 5. Willingness to perform a variety of simple repetitive tasks. Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in assisting residents with their activities of daily living. 6. Willingness to accept supervision and direction from supervisor. 7. Commitment to confidentiality in respect to resident status and medical records. 8. Ability to get along with co-workers, demonstrate integrity and express a sense of humor. Essential Functions: 1. Ability to read and write English in order to follow and give oral and written instructions. 2. Must be able to complete required paperwork and filing with high degree of accuracy. 3. Ability to observe resident's behavior and communicate observations in a professional and intelligent manner. 4. Physically capable of turning, stooping, bending, stretching, moving equipment and performing other related tasks. 5. Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. or the equivalent of one half of an adult (as in a two man transfer). 6. Must be able to cover the expanse of the campus to give residents custodial care and transport to and from activities. 7. After receiving the appropriate training, must be able to operate standard business equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machines and telephones. Position Responsibilities: Including, but not limited to the following; 1. Escort residents to and from their room; assist in dressing or undressing resident. 2. Take and record weight, height, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure. 3. Bathe bed residents or assist in bathing residents in bath/shower. Comb hair, clean and cut resident nails, give mouth washes, assist in cleaning teeth, and give shampoos when necessary. Give lotion back rubs. 4. Feed residents when necessary, assist others with their meals, and provide between meal nourishment when it is indicated. 5. Pass and empty bedpans, collect urine and fecal specimens, provide catheter care and give bowel care as needed. 6. Keep record of resident's food intake and output when ordered. 7. Answer call light as soon as possible to provide prompt care and safety for patients. 8. Assist residents in walking and transport residents to various nursing home departments and/or activities by means of wheel chairs, stretchers or walkers. 9. Make rounds to assure the residents safety and hygienic needs are met and position is changed. 10. Provide range-of-motion to joints during care to prevent contractures. 11. Keep residents, their clothing and their environment clean and orderly. 12. Clean and sanitize instruments and equipment. 13. Use resident's care supplies as provided by the nursing home and keep them refilled and supplied. 14. Chart on resident care record. 15. Care for the dying resident and prepare the body for the mortuary after death. 16. Perform all procedures in such a manner that will prevent transmission of infections from one person to another. 17. Be economically minded with the use of supplies, linens and utilities. 18. Attend regular in-service education to increase knowledge. 19. Perform all other duties, as requested by supervisor(s), with a positive attitude. |
