Job Purpose

The Welder maintains and repairs various metal parts by welding additional layers. The Welder’s primary responsibility is to perform repair and maintenance welding on equipment, including trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery.

The Welder can encounter different weather conditions while working in the yard and must be able to work without direct supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the common duties and responsibilities for this position, which can expand when an employee is given a specific task:
 
  • Receive instructions/work orders from our in-house system regarding welding projects
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager/Repair & Maintenance teams to collaborate on project priorities and parameters
  • Perform repair and maintenance welding on equipment such as trucks, trailers, and other heavy machinery
  • Identify defects on equipment and determine the necessary tools and equipment needed to perform repairs
  • Test repaired equipment using appropriate tools to ensure proper functionality of equipment
  • Examine welds to ensure that they meet specifications
  • Comply with health and safety requirements when using and storing any hazardous materials or welding equipment to avoid workplace hazards
  • Assist in other yard, shop, or warehouse duties when the need arises
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications and Skills Required
 
  • Red Seal/Journeyperson Welder is preferred
  • Consideration will be given to individuals who have achieved their Level 2 ticket or above
  • Ideally with relevant experience of at least 2 years performing repairs and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of Stick Welding and MIG Welding
  • Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Quick and attentive learner
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of safety standards
  • Good command of the English language – both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate ability to work professionally and respectfully with a positive attitude. Must possess a high level of personal integrity at all times in a fast-paced working environment
  • Strong work ethic and ability to complete work in a timely manner
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions
 
  • Regular work hours/shifts: (unless otherwise required by manager to start earlier)
    • MON to FRI, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Overtime may be available on an “as needed” basis
  • May be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Exposure to heat and chemicals used in welding equipment
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (company provided)
  • Own tools/equipment required: Steel-toed safety boots
  • Hazards associated with the industry/work area
  • Use of proper PPE is required

Physical Requirements
 
  • Long hours of sitting or standing
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 lbs
  • Noise level is moderately loud
  • Excellent stamina is required
