Description:
Staffmax is currently seeking a Library Technician to join our team in Toronto, ON. This is an on-site role with occasional remote work opportunities. The position will commence on Tuesday, August 7, 2023, and conclude on Friday, October 27, 2023. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 28th, 2023.

Hours of Work:
  • 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break.

Mandatory Requirements:

Education:
  • Successful completion of at least two (2) years of approved post-secondary school training in library science or a related specialty relevant to the position.

Experience:
  • Minimum 6 months of recent* experience in shelving library materials within the last three years.
  • Recent* experience in circulating library material using one of the following major integrated library systems: SYMPHONY, HORIZON, Innovative Interfaces, or Ex Libris. *Recent is defined as a minimum of six (6) continuous months' work in a library within the last three (3) years.

Desirable Experience:
  • Experience in performing general library duties.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Experience in using the Circulation system of the SYMPHONY integrated library system.
  • Experience in serials control using the SYMPHONY integrated library system.

General Duties:

As a Library Technician, your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing circulation duties, including check-in and check-out, using the SYMPHONY integrated library system.
  • Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, to support library acquisitions, collection management, and library administration.
  • Labeling and processing physical library materials and adding copies in the Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Managing stacks, which includes shelving and preparing signs for library collections.
  • Preparing surplus library materials for disposal by creating and circulating lists, sending surplus materials to requesting libraries, and packaging remaining surplus materials for disposal.
  • Assisting in the preparation of library materials for binding, including creating and maintaining binding lists, performing quality control checks, and routing materials to appropriate departments for cataloging and processing.
  • Assisting in the preparation of materials for digitization.
  • Providing general library support, including shelving, retrieving and processing library mail, photocopying, and mailing out library materials.
  • Performing other paraprofessional library duties as assigned by the manager.
