Position Details

• Position: Licensed 310J Trailer Technician / Mobile Yard Mechanic

• Location: Woodstock, ON 

• Pay: $42–$49/hour

• Sign-On Bonus: $10,000

• Shift Premiums:

  • 2nd Shift: +$3/hour

  • 3rd Shift: +$4/hour

  • Weekend: +$3/hour

• Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

Position Summary

The Trailer Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing various types and sizes of trailers. The successful candidate should be able to independently diagnose and repair hydraulic and air brake systems, heating and air conditioning systems, instruments, gauges, and perform preventive maintenance services.

The role may also involve assisting Lead Technicians and Maintenance Supervisors with major component repairs and replacements.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair various types and sizes of trailers.

• Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.

• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and air brake systems.

• Troubleshoot heating and air conditioning systems, instruments, and gauges.

• Identify parts required for repairs and replacements.

• Identify warrantable repairs and document work accurately.

• Inspect brake systems, wheel bearings, steering mechanisms, and other safety-critical components.

• Perform routine maintenance and lubrication.

• Adjust and replace brakes and other trailer components.

• Use hand and power tools, including pneumatic tools, welding equipment, hydraulic jacks, and hoists.

• Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.

• Inspect and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices.

• Verify dimensions and clearances of components to ensure they meet manufacturer specifications.

• Assist with major component removal and replacement when required.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

• Complete all repairs efficiently and according to safety and quality standards.

• Perform other projects and duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of practical tractor-trailer maintenance experience.

• Valid 310J Red Seal Trailer Technician licence required.

• Specialized training in trailer component repair and replacement is an asset.

• Strong knowledge of trailer systems and components.

• Proficiency with shop tools and diagnostic equipment.

• Valid Class G driver's licence.

• Ability to obtain a DZ licence within 6 months of being hired.

• Basic computer skills for maintenance system data entry.

• Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Reliable attendance and willingness to work the required schedule.

• Willingness to travel within the local district, customer yards, and training locations when required.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 12 kg.

• Frequently lift and/or move up to 23 kg.

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 kg.

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and use hands for extended periods.

• Ability to work in a hands-on mechanical environment.

• Good close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception required.
