Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Load Planner to join our transportation team in Winnipeg, MB. The ideal candidate will have proven, long-term experience working within a long-haul transportation environment and a strong understanding of fleet operations across Canada and the United States.
The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing freight movement, maximizing revenue and equipment utilization, reducing empty miles, and ensuring efficient planning while maintaining excellent service levels for drivers and customers.
This role requires strong operational decision-making skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and optimize daily freight movements to maximize revenue, cube utilization, and overall fleet efficiency.

Develop effective load plans while balancing customer service requirements and operational priorities.

Ensure full utilization of company equipment while minimizing empty miles.

Coordinate and communicate with drivers to ensure efficient routing, scheduling, and load execution.

Maintain strong driver relationships and support driver satisfaction and retention.

Ensure timely pickups and deliveries while meeting customer service expectations.

Monitor and adjust plans based on operational challenges, delays, equipment availability, and customer requirements.

Present operational issues and recommendations to management.

Ensure equipment is properly utilized and assigned according to operational needs.

Maintain knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and ensure compliance in load planning decisions.

Work closely with dispatch, operations, drivers, and customers to resolve issues and improve efficiency.

Support continuous improvement initiatives within transportation operations.
Qualifications and Requirements

Proven experience as a Load Planner within a long-haul transportation company.

Strong understanding of transportation operations in both Canada and the United States.

Extensive knowledge of Canadian and U.S. geography, routes, and freight lanes.

Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven transportation environment.

Strong understanding of reefer, van, and container equipment requirements.

Demonstrated ability to optimize fleet utilization and reduce empty miles.

Strong operational decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing demands.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

Strong relationship-building skills with drivers, customers, and internal teams.

Long-haul driving experience is considered a strong asset due to the understanding of driver challenges and operational demands.

Experience with large transportation fleets.
