Job Title: Metal Shop Technician
Job Type: Full-Time (Union Position)
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM (40 hours/week + overtime as needed)
Job Overview
Staffmax Staffing & Recruiting is currently hiring a Metal Shop Technician for our client in Winnipeg. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced shop environment, supporting the production of sheet metal products and assisting with day-to-day operations. This position also offers a pathway to a Red Seal Sheet Metal Journeyman Apprenticeship.
Key Responsibilities
Metal Shop Operations
- Assemble sheet metal products based on sketches and specifications
- Assist in custom fabrication and troubleshooting for internal and external projects
- Input and maintain CNC brake settings for repeat orders
- Operate and assist with standing seam machine production
- Monitor and maintain inventory of sheet metal and hardware
- Receive, inspect, and stock incoming materials using a forklift
- Package and prepare materials for shipment
- Maintain strong working relationships with team members, customers, and suppliers
Equipment & Shop Maintenance
- Perform routine safety checks on equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
- Organize, clean, and store tools and equipment properly
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience in material handling, shipping, or inventory control preferred
- Strong math skills, including working with fractions
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure
- Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract (required)
- Experience operating equipment such as forklifts or zoom booms is an asset
Working Conditions
- Shop-based work environment
- Physically demanding role with frequent lifting
- Early morning shifts with occasional overtime
- Must be flexible to shifting priorities and interruptions
- Cell phone required
- Must obtain Class 3 license and forklift certification within first 6 months
