Staffmax is hiring for our client, a leading metal manufacturer here in Winnipeg!

The Operations Leader will oversee the activities of work teams in the fabrication, distribution, and planning departments, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, material requirements, and production schedules. They will manage all plant activities, including facilities management and maintenance, while developing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining operational strategies that enhance efficiency and speed of supply without compromising safety or quality, fostering a culture of excellence.

Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Lead and enforce the business's health and safety program and requirements.
  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies and meet expectations.
  • Collaborate with Production Control and the Shift Leader to optimize resources for maximum efficiency and quality.
  • Monitor and assist in training new personnel, providing performance feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports to become effective and self-motivated leaders who help achieve goals and schedules.
  • Manage employee paperwork, approve time, and schedule employee time off.
  • Lead by example, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, problem-solving, and waste elimination.

Operational Excellence:

  • Conduct monthly safety audits and meetings to ensure compliance with legislation standards, deploying 5S throughout operations.
  • Create and institutionalize workflow documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in all operational functions.
  • Develop a team member skills matrix and ensure quarterly training plans are in place, resulting in health and safety awareness, continuous improvement knowledge, and overall cross-trained team members.
  • Ensure new team members undergo an effective onboarding process.
  • Implement a visual management system where performance improvements are driven by key performance indicators (KPIs) and problem-solving.
  • Establish inventory management systems to achieve high inventory accuracy and optimize inventory days on hand.
  • Implement a robust scheduling system to provide team members with clarity on daily goals and objectives, ensuring high on-time delivery in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Create and implement a preventative maintenance program, including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks to mitigate the risk of unplanned equipment downtime.
  • Participate in creating and executing operational-related financial budgets and forecasts.
