Job Title: Plant Manager – Sewing Factory
Location: Central Winnipeg, Manitoba
Salary: $80,000 annually
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Team: Managing 45–50 unionized sewing staff

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Plant Manager to lead our unionized sewing factory. The successful candidate will have the technical skill to construct garments from start to finish, perform time studies, and cost labor accurately for bidding purposes. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and has a deep understanding of apparel manufacturing, team management, and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities:
Garment Construction & Labor Costing

Break down garment construction into operations and establish efficient workflow

Conduct time studies and determine accurate labor costs per garment for quoting and bidding

Understand and recommend appropriate trims for each garment (purchasing handled by others)
Production & Scheduling

Plan and schedule production to meet delivery deadlines

Monitor daily output and make adjustments to meet quotas and quality standards

Track cutting orders and monitor their progress through the factory
Team Leadership & Supervision

Manage and support a team of 45–50 unionized staff including sewing machine operators and supervisors

Assign operators to departments based on skill, experience, and production needs

Supervise daily floor activity, offering direction, coaching, and respectful communication

Promote a respectful, inclusive, and performance-driven environment
Quality Control

Conduct quality checks on operator output throughout the day

Address and correct any quality issues in real-time

Ensure product meets specifications before shipment
Planning & Reporting

Review factory loading schedules and approved samples

Determine operator count and workflow to meet production goals

Liaise with internal teams to ensure smooth operations and clear communication
Additional Knowledge

Familiarity with various types of sewing machines and techniques

Strong understanding of garment trims, even though ordering is done by others

General knowledge of production planning, costing, and manufacturing timelines
Qualifications:

5+ years sewing experience in the apparel manufacturing industry

2–3+ years supervisory or management experience in a sewing/production environment

Strong knowledge of garment construction, time studies, and labor costing

Excellent organizational and scheduling skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, respectful leadership style
