Job Summary
The Shift Leader leads the daily activities of work teams ensuring standards are met with respect to safety, quality, material requirements and production schedules.    This is a hands-on role which means that they will work along-side the employees which they are leading.  This is a position of leadership, as such the company expects employees at this level to lead by example, and not only abide by, but also to enforce its rules of conduct.   

Hours: 4:30pm - 1:00am


Key Responsibilities / Functions:
Shop Floor Leadership
  • Enforce Health and Safety requirements.
  • Ensure employees are following policy and expectations are being met.
  • Lead shift production operations, including monitoring and adjusting workflow to maximize efficiency and quality.
  • Monitor and assist in the training of new personnel and provide performance feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Mentor and coach the floor operators and material handlers in becoming effective and self-motivated employees who help reach oranizational goals and schedules.
  • Ensure all employee paperwork is addressed, time approved and employee time off scheduled.
  • Lead through example a culture of continuous improvement, problem solving and waste elimination.
Shop Floor Coordination
  • Communication
    • Liaise between production staff and material handlers to ensure quality communication.
    • With the Operations Leader, ensure key decisions are communicated and implemented throughout the shift.
    • Ensure Shift to Shift communication is robust and clear so there is seamless disruption between shifts.
  • 5s
    • Ensure a safe workspace for all the employees on the shop floor.
    • Everything has a place and everything is in it’s place
    • Conduct weekly 5s audits
  • Preventative Maintenance
    • Oversee preventative maintenance program.
    • Troubleshoot and address day to day maintenance issues.
    • Ensure Lockout / Tagout procedure are in place.
  • Inventory Accuracy
    • Communicate any inventory issues or potential issues with PCS.
    • Conduct daily cycle counts within the plant.
    • Ensure material is located in its home position.
    • Purchase orders are received withing 24 hours.
    • Ensure all work order and sales order paperwork is handed in daily.
  • Standard Work
    • Ensure QC processes are created and followed.
    • Respond to and address customer complaints as they arrive Drive resolution to ensure issues don’t reoccur.
    • Ensure each employee is trained sufficiently and drive Quality at the Source.
