Wildfire Evacuation Response – Navigator Portage la Prairie

Overview:
As a Navigator, you will play a key frontline role in supporting individuals displaced due to wildfire evacuations. You’ll provide hands-on assistance to evacuees, help maintain the comfort and cleanliness of the facility, and serve as a welcoming, helpful presence during a challenging time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet and assist evacuees as they arrive at the facility

• Answer questions and help individuals navigate the space

• Distribute food, supplies, and other essentials

• Assist with setting up and cleaning sleeping areas

• Maintain tidiness by picking up visible garbage and organizing supplies

• Engage in light cleaning duties to ensure a comfortable environment

• Problem-solve and offer support where needs are observed

• Work collaboratively with government staff and volunteers onsite

• Follow directions from supervisors and report concerns as needed

Requirements:

• Comfortable being on your feet for extended periods

• Able to lift and carry moderate loads (e.g., bedding, supply boxes)

• Friendly, approachable, and customer service–oriented

• Strong verbal communication skills

• Self-starter who can take initiative without constant direction

• Must wear comfortable walking shoes and dress neatly (facility can be warm)
